lynda rossmann

Despite her English roots and marriage to a German (whom she met at university), Lynda Rossmann considers herself a Scot.  Over the last three decades, she has cast her anchor in Scotland, making the County of Angus home for her family.  In truth, the world is her family.  She is a glorious blend of tranquillity and energy.  Lynda Rossman is interesting – and interested!

She has been painting for as long as she can remember.  Typical of her genre, Rossmann is quiet amongst strangers, unassuming.  Like many an artist, she struggles to affirm her own skill, notwithstanding that her work hangs around the world – she has enjoyed serendipitous sales to strangers visiting her home for entirely unrelated purposes!  In many ways, this show, Lynda’s first one man show, is a reflection of that essential element of any artist’s apprenticeship – coming out!

Developing a reputation for her botanical watercolours, something of her personality is reflected in the meticulous and surreal aspects of her composition.  She is an earth mother; grounded by all that she sees around her and moved to celebrate its beauty in unique ways.  Rossmann says,

If I can just capture that moment ....”

This exhibition reveals a progression through Lynda Rossmann’s imagination.  The technical precision of a flower-head in one painting evolves, with the same prowess, into an arboreal study in another, set in an intriguing landscape.  From this we grow into a much more inventive world of dark, broody landscapes, redolent of places we have seen both in our travels and in our minds.

For those of you keen to build or even begin your very own real art collection, Lynda Rossmann is an excellent starting point.  As Christmas approaches, this is an excellent time to start.   Even better is Lynda’s donation to CLAPA from all sales.

the exhibition runs from friday 14th november 2014 to sunday 30th december 2014
