Whether you are a lover of art galleries or not, many in Angus will undoubtedly know of the work of Maureen Crosbie. Until a couple of years ago, Maureen was an art teacher around the schools of the County.  Although she forged her reputation in the classroom, her own work has increasingly attracted public attention.  So much so, Crosbie now pursues her full-time career in the studio rather than the school.

Now working under the moniker “gallus glass”, her stained glass and mosaic work will already be well known to many.  Public commissions feature in Kirriemuir and Brechin and her work is now privately collected both at home and abroad.

Since her craft has become the focus of her working life, her style remains recognisably “gallus”.  However, her work continues to be exploratory, innovative and, in many ways, autobiographical.  Fiercely Scottish, this exhibition also reveals a more intimate exploration of Crosbie’s roots.  Both themes are explored; in some ways a reflection of what it means to be Maureen Crosbie.  Whether she deploys a long lens and reflects on the detail of the flora and fauna around her or narrows her focus to the detail of her own personal history, her quirky use of materials and composition always reveals a many layered story.

Maureen’s work always hooks you with a memory of your past and this exhibition is no different.  Her work both catches the light and delivers reflection.  This Christmas, treat yourself to a little time for you, too, to do both.

This show runs from friday 11th november 2016 to saturday 31st december 2016
