kathryn lamb
In any culture, the greatest artists – regardless of whether they communicate through words, sounds or images – are those who understand the frailties of humankind. They are the supreme observers.
Kathryn Lamb falls into that enviable subset of those whose talent in that regard is transformed in technical excellence. As in her writing (she is also a renowned author), she has an eye for detail. She can sketch a thousand words in a few, brief lines. Her observations are always on the button, without the need for offence or judgment. She leaves it to us to do that. Her work is both droll and thought provoking!
Perhaps that’s why she has been such a prolonged tour de force since finishing school in the Middle East. She augmented her income through her English degree at Oxford (St Hugh’s College) by submitting cartoons to Private Eye – and has worked with them and many other covers ever since, her most recent addition being The Lady. We have loved her from the outset; growing older with her. Tenderly, she has illustrated our journey as we marched through the brave new world of our youth into the wide eyed wisdom of our third age. Throughout, she has remained fresh, timeless and contemporary.
A quiet, watchful sage has come to Kirriemuir. Come and smile with us.
Kathryn Lamb’s show runs from 20th November 2015 until 31st December 2015. (check our website for opening times: www.bankstreetgallery.org)
